konichiwa tokyo!

9:16 AM

tokyo is a big weird ocean of cement, lights and people with unique style. the population of 25 million is close to that of entire canada! we arrived last night at around 8 after a 24-hour trip, so slightly exhausted. we walked through the hotel's surrounding area and ended up at a japanese bar for dinner. very yummy and fun, with excellent japanese draft beer. although saying goodbye was very sad, i am happy to finally be here and am looking forward to meeting the okinawa crowd later today at our prefectural meetings. i miss everyone and hope you all are well and happy!... xx julia

still in mtl...

12:10 AM

Hello and welcome to my blog!

I chose this method of communication over group e-mails so that you can check in whenever you care to. I am still in beautiful Montreal, departing on Saturday morning to yet another beautiful isle, this one located in South Japan and named Miyako-jima.

These last few days have been rather hectic in preparing all that must get done before leaving for a one-year adventure, and I expect these next few days will be equally busy.

Here is a map of Miyako-jima. The bigger island is Miyako, and the smaller one to the North-West is Irabu, where I will be teaching. I will have to take a ferry to and from work!

p.s. jima is island in japanese.
