nous nous sommes enfin rencontrées jeudi passé et ce fût la joie absolue! nous avons ensuite passé la fin de semaine sur la magnifique petite île de tokashiki. maintenant de retour à miyako, nous passons nos journées à visiter les nombreuses plages...

hi!!
been having loads of fun since i last wrote... so.. what has happened? on saturday it was my bday and the people here threw me a surprise brunch at a very fancy hotel on the waterfront here in miyako. it was funny because i was tricked into the idea that we were going to the beach and i was wondering why everyone was so nicely dressed whilst i was super-duuuuper casual. regardless it was lovely and everyone gave me gifts too! i was such a spoiled girl on saturday.
apres le brunch nous sommes alles faire le tour de l`ile au complet, c`est tellement magnifique et j`ai encore de la misere a croire que j`habite ici.. La ville de Hirara ou je demeure est moins magnifique mais garde un certain je ne sais quoi.. un petit charme peut-etre?tout est en beton et a cause de la temperature, on a l`impression que tout est en train de tranquillement se deteriorer.
thursday morning i am going to the main okinawan island for a business trip to sign my contract and attend a seminar about teaching english. then my canadian friend JACKIE is going to come and meet me and we are coming back to miyako together!!! before that we are going to go camping for the week-end on a tiny little island names tokushiki, and then jackie will be staying with me for a whole 2 weeks, i am so so so excited and happy about that! it will be so nice to have a piece of home here with me and also to discover the island together..
il y a trop de choses a dire, il faudra d`ailleurs que je decrive mon hello-kitty mobile un de ces jours..
mais pour maintenant je vous embrasse tous et a bientot! j`aurais l`internet a la maison des lundi prochain, ce qui facilitera toute communication. / next monday = internet at home! yippee! that will make all communications that much easier.

puppies are sadly not allowed in my building. sniff. well i suppose it will make life a little less busy but also a little less lively. i don`t think i will have the heart to return to the terrace where paco lives though, too sad for me. thanks to all for your comments and e-mails about it!

ok so i forgot to mention in my last post that amongst the heat and the gin&tonics of last night, i fell in love. he is smart, cute and sooo loving and i named him paco. he is soft and black and white and ohhhh how i want him! i held him in my arms all night and practically cried when i had to put him back in his little box. this truly is the cutest puppy in the world, but i have to control myself and calm down before making the decision of whether or not to have him. i hear that it may be possible to have him come to school with me and run around in the sugarcane fields, which would be perfect as i wouldn`t and couldn`t leave him at home all day...
so there you have it. feel free to disuade me. :-)

it all happened on friday. i moved into my apartment, bought a cellphone and a car.
my apartment is bright and spatious- i love it. on saturday i went shopping for it, rather ballistically actually, and pretty much bought up the town and found some great pieces, including a bed that didn`t fit through the door so it stayed out on my porch for a night, until 2 big strong men (hehehee) came and took the door off and got it in!!!
it is so nice to be in my nest at last, and get out of my suitcases. last evening there was a welcoming party for new JETs, very fun and also drunk. :-) it must be the heat, i keep telling myself.

it's.. a typhoon. her name is matsa. typhoon time = no school, no stores, no walks, no sun, neighbour's internet (so must be quick!). just lots of rain and wind and sitting and reading and watching dvds on my computer. on the upside of things i am moving into my own flat later today (yippee) and went on a biiig shopping spree: fridge, stove, car (double yippee).
thank you all so much for your messages and i will write back very soon, when we say bye to the typhoon.

hello hello from lovely miyako-jima!
arrived on thursday after three days in tokyo and a day on the main okinawan island for orientation. i was greeted by my supervisor kawane-sensei and some other foreigners living here. now i am sitting in the teacher`s room of the high school on irabu island and am surrounded by a lot of japanese speaking that i do not understand.. for the moment i am living in the apartment of the english teacher i am replacing, an american guy named nick who has been very helpful. he is back in the states at the moment visiting so i have the place to myself. on friday i visited 6 appartments and chose a nice one- i cannot wait to get in, unpack and settle!
the week-end was nice, went to the beach and a german beer-drinking festival yesterday at this weird german village they have here called UENO,it was pretty funny to watch the japanese chugging away at the common japanese ale, called orion.
now i have to go as i must make a self-introduction in japanese (gulp),and meet the principal (double-gulp).

as it turns out i did not have to introduce myself today but will have to instead on thursday. i did meet the principal,though, and gave him `omiyage`, which means a gift from your home country, i.e., a cheesy `Canada, eh?` t-shirt and a beautiful Inuit art calendar.The introduction was slightly awkward as my japanese is pitiful. i will definitely have to kick-start my learning.
there is not internet at nick`s house so this will be my main communication tool until i get internet of my own. yahoo is firewalled so i cannot use it on this computer.
